KEY POINTS:
Two people were treated for smoke inhalation after a pot used for cooking chips caught fire in Titirangi at 5.15am today.
Senior Station Officer Evan Taylor, a volunteer with the Titirangi Fire Brigade, said it was lucky the people did not receive more serious injuries, after a shift worker cooked the chips and fell asleep in the Otitori Bay Rd home which had no smoke alarms.
One man was taken to hospital for treatment and another man was treated at the scene, Mr Taylor said.
Damage to the kitchen was superficial.
