KEY POINTS:
An Auckland man has had convictions for drug dealing and money laundering quashed, because he was convicted by a jury of just ten.
Alex Wong will now face a retrial. His original trial, scheduled to last two weeks, ran overtime and one juror was discharged during its fourth week because she had to sit two exams.
Another juror was spat at, intimidated and verbally abused by a member of the public not connected to the drugs case.
The judge discharged the upset woman for compassionate reasons.
The Supreme Court has ruled those circumstances were not exceptional enough to allow the case to continue with just ten jurors.
