A convicted paedophile has abandoned his home in Blackball near Greymouth after pressure from angry locals.
The man moved to the house recently on his release from prison.
Greymouth police later told the local primary school principal of his presence, which enraged locals in the small community.
Greymouth Mayor Tony Kokshoorn said he believed the man was still in the district. He had heard he was in the care of the Salvation Army.
