Controversial new telecommunications security legislation is now the law of the land.
The Telecommunications Interceptions and Security Capability Bill has just passed its third and final reading In Parliament by 61 votes to 57.
The new law imposes new security obligations on network companies and requires them to allow intelligence agencies to carry out lawful warranted communication interceptions on their networks
It has been criticised by the telco sector and has been opposed by Labour the Greens, New Zealand First, the Maori Party, and Mana.
