A man is fighting for his life in the second serious workplace accident in New Zealand in less than 12 hours.
He is in a critical condition after being crushed between a rubbish truck and a tree in east Auckland.
Counties Manukau Senior Sergeant Hamish Chapman said emergency services were called to Golfland Drive about 11.30am and a man was taken to Middlemore Hospital.
Chapman said part of Golfland Drive has been closed and cordons will be in place for some time.
Auckland Council director infrastructure and environmental services Barry Potter said the man was a council contractor and was delivering rubbish bins to residents in the east Auckland area.
