A man has today admitted stealing goods worth thousands of dollars while working as a contractor in the Christchurch red zone.
Victor Tupotahi Jackson, 38, admitted three theft charges today in the Christchurch District Court.
Jackson worked between May 1 last year and January 31 this year in the cordoned off area of central Christchurch following the earthquakes which caused widespread destruction in the city.
Police say during his time he stole new clothing, accessories, cosmetics, jewellery, and electrical goods which were then sent by courier to the Bay of Plenty.
Jackson then held a 'monster garage sale' at which he sold some of the stolen property.
