Consumer NZ is warning people about a new customer offer from Air New Zealand which discounts regional fares by up to 30 per cent.
The airline's new Starfish Card gives people a year's automatic savings on airfares, including grab-a-seat. However, to qualify for the cheap seats customers first have to spend $800.
Frequent flyers are advised to calculate how much they travel and how beneficial the discounts will be before they apply for the card.
Air New Zealand spokesman Bruce Parton says the card aims to stimulate growth and push down notoriously high regional prices for travellers.
He says one customer who spent $60,000 a year on regional flights would save $18,000.
