KEY POINTS:
A Hastings constable is being praised for saving the life of a man who was stabbed in his leg at a party earlier in the week.
The man remains in a critical condition at Hawke's Bay Hospital.
The 19-year-old victim received a deep stab wound to the leg after a dispute at a party in a Liverpool Crescent house in the Hastings suburb of Flaxmere on Tuesday night.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dave De Lange of Hastings CIB said the man would probably have died at the scene if it were not for the efforts of a constable, who applied pressure to the leg wound until paramedics arrived.
He said police knew the identity of the man who stabbed the teenager but were yet to locate him.
Interviews would continue today with family members and friends who attended the party on Tuesday night, he said.
