KEY POINTS:
There was confusion at the Dunedin District Court this morning over the representation of murder-accused Clayton Weatherston.
The 32-year-old is charged with murdering 22-year-old Sophie Elliott in her family's Ravensbourne home on January 9.
Weatherston's legal aid defence counsel Len Anderson was in the process of seeking a further remand for his client, when Judith Ablett-Kerr QC informed the judge she was now representing Weatherston.
Mr Anderson explained he had no knowledge of Mrs Ablett-Kerr's association with the case.
Weatherston has been remanded in custody until next Thursday.
Mr Anderson says nobody was more surprised than him with the appearance of Mrs Ablett-Kerr.
