Concern Air Force not called to boat rescue

Whanganui MP Chester Borrows is concerned the Air Force was not called to a search and rescue mission at the weekend when Geoffrey Mark Hampton, 19, died waiting for help.

He was aboard a fishing boat with two others when the boat sank south of the Whanganui River.

Mr Borrows said It took 10 hours to rescue the men and the Ohakea Air Force base was a two-minute flight away.
