KEY POINTS:
The Broadcasting Standards Authority has upheld a complaint against a segment on TV3's Campbell Live programme.
TV production company Eyeworks Touchdown complained that a segment which screened on the programme in October 2006 was unfair and inaccurate.
The item reported on rubbish which was left on a Fijian island used by Eyeworks to film the reality TV show, Treasure Island.
Eyeworks said the segment gave the impression that the island was strewn with rubbish which had mounted up after years of filming.
However, the production company only used the island for a few weeks each year, and it was also used by local fisherman, boaties and other TV companies who may have been responsible for the rubbish.
Eyeworks said it had a contract with Rokorokowa Trust, which rented the island, to keep it clean.
The fact the trust continued to rent the island to the company indicated it had kept up its end of the contract.
This had all been explained in detail to Campbell Live, Eyeworks said, when it had contacted the company at 11am on the day the item was broadcast.
However only a small part of the faxed explanation was included on the programme.
The authority upheld Eyeworks' complaints of inaccuracy and unfairness, but didn't uphold a complaint that the segment was unbalanced.
It ordered Campbell Live to broadcast a statement outlining its decision, within a month.
