Lansdowne Bowling Club held a well attended annual meeting earlier this month with all administrative positions being filled amid a general feeling the club had a bright future.
New members are, however, still welcome to take advantage of their facilities at Burling Park which this season will be managed by a committee which has Val Whitley as president. Other officers are: Senior vice-president, Pam Hoblyn; junior vice-president,Richard Whitley; secretary, Myrtle Stanford; treasurer, Keith Allen; publicity, Pat Shannahan; centre delegates, Van and Richard Whitley.
Lansdowne were represented by both Tony Newland and Richard Whitley at the airarapa development squad's match at Hastings on July 2.
They intend to maintain their two greens for the 2005-06 season and are looking forward to big entries for their major and open tournaments.
Lansdowne also have a strong indoor bowls section which operates on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday afternoons during the winter with up to five mats in play.
The Martinborough club is also active in the off season with housie nights resuming at 7pm on Friday, July 15 with both members and visitors being welcome.
Masterton Park Bowling Club had a good attendance of members at their annual meeting on June 25. President Nelson Tepu presented his report and thanked those members who had rallied around when required and helped make the season a successful one.
The greens committee did have some problems with the irrigation system but perseverance won through in the end.
Financially Masterton Park are in good shape under the guidance of treasurer Colin Pugh although there is still room for more members.
Officers elected were: Patron, Leo Matthews; president, Ron Corbett; vice-presidents, Brian Tutty and Mary Mahoney; secretary, Karyn Burling; treasurer, Colin Pugh; grens convenor, Nelson Tepu.
The match and tournament committee have put together a full and varied programme for this coming season with opening day planned for Saturday, September 10.
The Masterton Bowling Club also had a good attendance at their annual meeting on Sunday with president Warren Wyeth extending a warm welcome to all present.
Membership reversed the current trend with about 20 new members joining, not all of them new to bowls but certainly new to the Masterton club.
The businesshouse competition had again been very successful and also pleasing was the amount of sponsorship agained from various avenues.
Event-wise the club achieved good results in the centre's inter-club series and several club members made it into representative sides.
Improvements to facilities have included shelters around both greens and the levelling and resowing of the number one green.
With treasurer Bill Hamilton at the helm Masterton's finances are in a sound state with a profit being returned on the year's operations.
