The New Zealand Herald and NZ Post have teamed up to offer readers a selection of great prizes commemorating the nation's involvement in World War INZ Post is this week launching a series of commemorative stamps, stamp books and a commemorative, limited edition silver proof coin honouring our deeds and some of the country's greatest sacrifices during the war.
The latest series of collectibles - titled "The Darkest Hour" and which go on sale on Wednesday - will mark New Zealand's huge sacrifice on the Western Front, including battles in Passchendaele and nearby Broodseinde.
The 1oz silver proof coin depicts New Zealand's darkest day in battle, on October 12, 1917 at Passchendaele, and features two soldiers paying their respects to a fallen comrade at one of many makeshift graves.
It is limited to just 2500 worldwide and costs $139. The coin comes in a pressed metal tin, made to resemble those gifted to soldiers in World War I by HRH Princess Mary at Christmas.
NZ Post will also be launching the latest in its series of commemorative stamps and stamp books marking World War I.The Darkest Hour book - which will cost $39.90 - looks at the Passchendaele campaign, including telling the tale of Ellen Knight and New Zealand's role in the Western Front conflict.
