Former National MP Dail Jones now standing for New Zealand First, was a controversial figure in Parliament who was once stabbed with a chisel by a constituent.
The lawyer is contesting the seat of Helensville, which he held during the Muldoon era, because he wants to end Treaty of Waitangi claims.
He suffered a punctured lung when he was attacked in his electorate office in June 1980 during a Saturday clinic by pensioner Ambrose Tindall, who was obsessed about a $15 traffic ticket.
Mr Jones resigned as junior Government whip in October 1980 over his opposition to new divorce laws.
