KEY POINTS:
The largest intact specimen of a colossal squid is on its way to Wellington's Te Papa Museum.
The huge specimen was hauled from the deep last month by New Zealand fishermen in Antarctic waters then kept in a cool store in Timaru.
It was trucked to Wellington yesterday for scientific testing at the Ministry of Fishing.
The squid will be kept at Te Papa museum for scientific study, where it may be displayed before going into storage.
Early estimates put the squid at 10m in length and weighing up to 450kg -- 150kg heavier than the next biggest specimen found, an immature female caught in 2003.
