Once again the poor weather reared its ugly head, but the good keen golfers never feared its wrath.
It was good to see the juniors out enjoying the twilight golf last Wednesday. The senior men and ladies as well as the older golfers admired watching the younger juniors out and about. Winners on the night were all juniors. First was Vinny Molnar with 21 stableford points. Second equal were Kirk Collins and Tommy Lloyd with 20 points. Kirk also picked up a two on the 9th.
Due to the open event being held, the Sunday stableford saw only a small field for this one day event. Jeremy Nunns and Shane 'Iceman' Miller were the winners with 38 points. Keith Willis scored a two on the 15th hole.
The Speights 36 hole tournament was held last weekend. On Saturday the wind howled through the course but that didn't stop golfers coming from Kapiti, Trentham, Mornington, Waikanae and Mahunga. It was good to see such a large array of people for the event which is getting bigger every year.
Local junior Kirk Collins capped off a great weekend by winning the Cappie Rasmussen Memorial Cup for 'members only' best nett' and the Harry Puha Memorial Trophy for best nett overall.
Julie Dondertman won the ladies event for the Harry Puha Trophy.
Sunday October 28 will be the semifinals of the club championships. For the senior men Tai Walters will play Norm Ellis, and Kirk Collins will play Tony Russo. In the intermediate grade Charlie Priestley will play Brent Leader and Alistair Forrest will play Johnston Williams. In junior grade Matt Kotuhi will play Puna Apapa and Dean Hands will play Peter Hawkins. The plate event sees Bob Gillespie against Allen Bennett and Peter Gray against Chris Parker.
Hopefully the wind will blow away soon.
Enjoy yourselves out there!
