Wairarapa College performed outstandingly at the Federation Cup premier national secondary schools tournament in Christchurch last week, placing fifth out of the 16 teams.
After beating Rangi Ruru 1-0 in a nail-biter on Thursday, Wairarapa College played off with Vila Maria for fifth and sixth and in another close, tense encounter prevailed 2-1. St Matthew's Collegiate lost their Thursday match to Tauranga Girls 5-6 and then played off for 11th and 12th with Kirstin School the following day, St Matthew's claiming the 11th ranking with a decisive 4-0 success.
The Wairarapa College boys first XI finished their Rankin Cup programme impressively in Rotorua, beating St Kentigern's 7-0 on Thursday, and then edging out Auckland Grammar 3-2 in the playoff for 9th and 10th positions.
