Wairarapa College student Jessie Bennett has been selected in a Wellington under-19 girls cricket development squad which will take part in an international tournament in Cape Town, South Africa at Easter 2008.
Matches there will be played at venues in and around Cape Town with each team guaranteed a minimum of five games.
Her selection tops off a busy year for Bennett with the 15-year-old not only playing on Friday nights for the Wairarapa College first XI but travelling over the hill to also play for the Onslow club in the Wellington senior women's competition. Her move there was encouraged by ex-New Zealand skipper Maia Lewis.
Bennett, an all-rounder, had a fine season for Onslow with her best return with the ball being 3-23.
Her performances with Onslow earned her selection in the Wellington under-16 squad which won the Wanganui under-19 secondary schoolgirls tournament in January, beating Hawke's Bay in the final.
