Wairarapa teams failed to qualify for the quarter-finals at the premier New Zealand secondary schools hockey tournaments this week.
The Federation Cup girls tourney in Auckland saw Wairarapa College finished third in their pool and St Matthew's Collegiate fourth. Both teams did win in the first round of cross-over matches yesterday though, Wairarapa College edging out Macleans College 1-0 and St Matthew's Collegiate beating Samuel Marsden 2-1.
Wairarapa College also came third in their pool at the Rankin Cup boys tourney in Napier. They too won well yesterday, defeating Burnside High 8-0.
Local teams are faring well at the Founders Cup tournament at Clareville with Tararua College and Kuranui College both topping their pools.
Neither Wairarapa College nor St Matthew's College were able to chalk up wins in their A grade matches at the Lower North Island netball tourney in Palmerston yesterday but Kuranui College remained on track for a place in the B grade final with two victories.
The Wairarapa College boys and girls soccer teams are heading for the semi-finals at the Malcolm Cowie Cup tourney in New Plymouth and the Central Satellite tournament in Wellington respectively,as are Rathkeale College at the Trident Trophy event in Wanganui.
