The enrolment zone has been scrapped for Wairarapa College.
Geoff Copps, Wairarapa College Board of Trustees chairman, said the school had got the nod from the Ministry of Education to abandon its enrolment scheme, which was removed on Saturday.
The request had been made, Mr Copps said, to ensure "the whole community is able choose their secondary school from all the options available".
"The concept of freedom of choice for all parents and caregivers in our community is very important to us and we are pleased that the ministry has finally agreed that this choice should be extended to everyone," he said.
"It is our view that the secondary schools of the region offer some clear and distinct choices of style and we are pleased that there are now no impediments to people choosing the best school for their particular child's needs."
