Wairarapa College placed a creditable seventh at the country's premier secondary secondary schoolboys hockey tournament, the Rankin Cup, which was played in Dunedin last week.
They beat Palmerston North Boys 3-2 in the playoff for seventh and eighth after having lost to Westlake Boys 3-0 and Otago Boys 5-0 in previous top eight clashes.
The Federation Cup secondary schoolgirls tourney in Wellington saw Wairarapa College place eighth and St Matthews Collegiate ninth equal. Wairarapa College went down 1-3 to Whangarei Girls High in the playoff for seventh and eighth while St Matthew's drew 2-2 with Waikato Diocesan in their playoff for ninth and 10 th.
