KEY POINTS:
Three 15-year-old Marlborough Girls College pupils face assault charges after an attack this week that left another schoolgirl needing hospital treatment.
Police said the three were arrested yesterday afternoon after the incident on school grounds about 2.15pm on Tuesday. They had been charged with assault with intent to injure.
College board of trustees chairman Bernie Rowe told the Marlborough Express newspaper he understood the three girls had been suspended and would face a disciplinary hearing next week.
Constable Michelle Stagg, of Blenheim police, said the victim's mother had laid a complaint prompting an investigation.
The victim required hospital treatment, she said.
College principal Karen Stewart confirmed an assault happened at the end of the lunch break on Tuesday. Staff responded immediately.
"College management and the board of trustees view this incident very seriously and are working through the issues with the students involved," she said.
