Meanwhile Wairarapa women's bowls selector John Polson has expressed disappointment at the results achieved from a series of practise sessions in which the focus has been on draw bowls, the bread and butter of the game.
Players were set several tasks where the emphasis was on shot and decision making with results being recorded on a percentage basis.
Polson described these results as "very disappointing" although noting that some players had been unable to attend all four sessions and some had actually done well.
He said he had made the statement that the criteria for representative selection, particularly now that the new format of two bowl games is in vogue, included consistency in draw play , in particular, but in all other phases as well.
Polson said it was clear that if Wairarapa were to compete well against other regions their players needed to improve in a number of areas and that while it was early in the season there was no real excuse for bad performance, using the old adage of once you have learnt to ride a bicycle you don't forget.
The next practise session for the women players will be at the Greytown Bowling Club on Saturday, September 24, starting at 10am.
