New Zealand-made tyres will be a thing of the past by Christmas as the country's remaining tyre manufacturer closes its Christchurch factory.
Six hundred staff will lose their jobs in Adelaide.
Bridgestone says it is no longer viable to make tyres in either country and its tyres will now be imported from Japan, Thailand and Indonesia.
The company will gift some land to local authorities in Christchurch and Adelaide to recognise the enormous contribution the communities have made.
