Coke recalls five drinks due to glass fragment fears

Coca-Cola is recalling five of its popular drinks because there might be glass fragments in the bottles.

Schweppes Lemonade, Tonic Water, Soda, Dry Ginger Ale and Soda Lemon Twist in 330ml glass bottles, with best-before dates between January 10 and 30, 2014, may contain the hazards.

Coca-Cola said in the recall notice that there was a fault in a small number of glass bottles within those batches which may have chipped finishes and glass fragments.

The affected products may have been sold individually or in packs of four from supermarkets, cafes, licensed premises and other retail outlets throughout New Zealand.

Coca-Cola could not be contacted for comment on the recall.

Consumers who bought any of the affected products are asked to check the best-before date on the neck of the bottle.

If the date is between January 10 and 30, 2014, they shouldn't be drunk.

Consumers should contact Coca-Cola on 08000-505-123 for further instructions about what to do with the bottle. Coca-Cola will provide a replacement voucher.

In May 2011, Coca-Cola was forced to change the way it wrote recall notices after it was pulled up by health authorities for the way it recalled its Pumped flavoured water that made 11 people ill.

Problems with a sterilising process at the Putaruru factory saw white mould form in the flavoured water bottles.
