KEY POINTS:
Cobra, one of the great go-fast names from more than 40 years ago, is back with the Venom V8 concept, spiritual successor to the famous Shelby Cobra.
But it is not known if the Venom prototype, styled by designer Jamie Martin and built of aluminium and carbon fibre, will go into production, either as a hardtop or roadster.
Martin's muscular design is based heavily on the original, including propeller-style hubs on the 17-inch five-spoke alloys, just like those on the original Shelby's wire rims.
At the front, triangular headlights and fangs in the gaping grille give a reptile-like face to match the name.
Stripes down the centre of the car are a nod to the Cobra's heritage.
At the rear, a rectangular LED forms the tail-light cluster, below which sits a stacked twin exhaust.
Backing up the looks is a 4.6-litre supercharged Ford V8 producing 390kW (525bhp). This should propel the car from 0-100km/h in 3.4sec and on to a top speed of 340km/h.
