A Coastguard plane is up looking for a man who is overdue from a fishing trip at Great Barrier Island.
The man- who is in his 40s - left Whangarei in his 6.2 metre powerboat two days ago and went fishing at the Mokohinau Islands, northeast of the island.
He was meant to stay at Great Barrier Island that night and was due to return yesterday morning.
Coastguard northern region spokesman Tony Winyard said a fixed wing plane has been sent to search for him from Ardmore Airport.
Winyard said there will be a pilot, a flight coordinator and an observer as well.
