Wairarapa United soccer coach Phil Keinzley is "very disappointed" his team's Capital premier division match with Marist at the Pugh Sports Bowl on Sunday has been postponed because Marist is playing a catch-up Chatham Cup elimination fixture.
Keinzley doesn't have any quibbles with the reason for the postponement, it's just that Wairarapa United can't take advantage off the momentum gained from their commanding wins off the previous two weekends, against Western Suburbs and Lower Hutt City.
"It's the old story of when you get on a roll you don't want to stop, it's not the ideal time for a break as far as we are concerned," he said.
Wairarapa United currently sit second equal with Island Bay United on the premier division points table. They have 15 points, four less than Tawa. On 13 points are Waterside-Karori, followed by Kapiti Coast United 12, Upper Hutt City and Miramar Rangers 11, Marist and Lower Hutt City 6 and Western Suburbs 1.
Leaders Trevs Sports Masterton were beaten 3-2 by Carterton Wanderers in division one of the Wairarapa championship last weekend and the two now share the competition lead.
In other games Sports Arena Douglas Villa hammered Featherston 6-0 and Wairarapa College beat McAuleys Masterton 3-1.
Points are: Trevs Sports Masterton 18, Carterton Wanderers 18, Sports Arena Douglas Villa 17, Wairarapa College 8, Featherston 5 and McAuleys Masterton 1.
There was an upset in division two as well with Carterton Redbacks losing to Douglas Villa Offsiders 4-3. That result gave Douglas Villa Magpies the chance to leap to the lead on the points table and they grabbed the opportunity, beating Masterton Presidents 4-1. Carterton Casuals and Evergreens drew 2-2.
Points are: Douglas Villa Magpies 16, Carterton Redbacks 15, Douglas Villa Offsiders 13, Evergreens 8, Carterton Skulls 7, Masterton Presidents 5 and Carterton Casuals 4.
Tomorrow's draw:
DIVISION ONE: Carterton Wanderers v McAuleys Masterton, Trevs Sports Masterton v Sports Arena Douglas Villa, Featherston v Wairarapa College at Greytown.
DIVISION TWO: Carterton Redbacks v Carterton Skulls, Carterton Casuals v Douglas Villa Offsiders, Evergreens v Masterton Presidents.
