Dalefield women's hockey coach Rochelle Retter wasn't too fazed by her team's 5-1 loss to Eastern Hutt in a Wellington premier division match played in Wellington on Saturday.
The same two teams meet in the semi-finals next weekend and Retter found enough encouragement in the Dalefield performance to suggest they will be more competitive on that occasion.
"The composure and discipline wasn't up to scratch but those are things we can put right," Retter said of Saturday's game.
"They (Eastern Hutt) can get a bit aggro and there were times when we lost our cool and they capitalised & it was a good learning curve for next weekend."
Jodi Graham scored the only Dalefield goal in a match in which they forced a number of penalty corners but failed to make the most of them.
"We showed we can open up their defence, that was positive too," Retter said.
Goalkeeper Sara Crofoot had an outstanding game for Dalefield and Alice Davies was also sound on defence.
The pick of their attack were Charlotte Meo and Tara Hall.
The Dalefield men were outgunned by Harbour City-Tawa in their Wellington premier division match, also played in Wellington, the combined side winning 9-1.
Coach Mark Fenwick said several of the Dalefield players, notably Rowan Yeo and Nathan Shannahan, played well individually but as a unit they were no match for a slick
and accurate Harbour City-Tawa side.
"Some of their goals were class acts, as good as you would see at this level," he said.
Dalefield's only goal was scored by Mark Duxbury.
