Coach Kelly Sargent isn't fazed at the prospect of Wairarapa fielding very much a new look combination in their regional super league netball match with Kapiti at Porirua tonight.
Indications are that Sarah Brooking at goal defence will be the only member of the starting line-up playing in the same position as selected for the first round fixture against Mana in Masterton last week, a match won by Wairarapa by 51-42.
Two of those who initially took the court in that game,Sargent herself and Lisa Butler are on the injured list, while Lisa Manihera is unavailable because of a prior commitment.
It's a situation which has caused Sargent to make a number of positional changes for the Porirua match.
Making their debuts in the starting seven will be Wairarapa College student Abby Hull at goal attack , Cindy Cooper at wing defence and probably Kelly Matthews at goalkeeper and they will be joined by Geraldine Carroll at goal shoot, Carlene Karaitiana at centre, Emma Foote at wing defence and, of course, Brooking at goal defence.
Coach Sargent is taking a positive spin on so many personnel and positional changes having to be made.
"What it does is give other players the chance to show their capabilities and I know they're dead keen to make the most of the opportunity,' she said. "It's a challenge which I'm sure they will cope with.,"
Sargent was happy with the skill and fitness levels shown by the Wairarapa squad in the win over Mana but knows that if they are to extend the better teams in the super league they will need to enhance their concentration.
"We did go off the boil at times and that's something you can't afford to do against quality opposition., " she said. "The aim must always be to start well and keep the pressure on all the way through and that's what we've got to get right."
