Coach Dayle Clarkson set out clear goals for her Wairarapa side leading into their Wellington regional superleague netball match with Kapi Mana last Thursday and, while they were beaten 72-48, she was encouraged by their response.
"Stay focused and stay competitive," was the Clarkson catch cry as Wairarapa looked to overcome the deficiencies in earlier league games.
"We had been guilty of napping during certain phases of our games and not reacting quickly enough to do something about it," Clarkson said. "Our aim this time was to have more awareness when this was starting to happen and to have strategies in place to maintain the momentum."
The first half, in particular, saw Wairarapa giving Kapi Mana plenty to think about with the margin between the two sides in the second quarter just two goals; a situation which restricted Kapi Mana to a 32-22 lead at the half-time break.
