Wellington-based ``loan players'' Jeremy Te Huia and Mana
Fairamo are likely to be in the starting line-up for Wairarapa-
Bush when they complete their warm-up for the 2010 Heartland
championship with a match against Wellington Samoans at
Memorial Park, Masterton, on Saturday.Tantrum won't settle on the complete make-up of his Wairarapa-Bush team until tomorrow at the earliest but he confirmed to the Times-Age yesterday that, providing they recovered from their commitments in the Jubilee Cup final in Wellington on Sunday, Te Huia and Fairamo will be in the run-on side.
``I haven't heard of any problems injury-wise so they will be
there, ``Tantrum said.
``We know they are talented players but we need to get them
up to speed with combinations and tactics and obviously we don't
have a lot of time.''
Their versatility is a major attribute for Te Huia and Fairamo
with Te Huia capable of filling first-five, second-five and fullback
and Fairamo No8 and flanker.
But Tantrum is keen to play them in their preferred roles
against the Samoans which means Te Huia will be at first-five and
Fairamo at No8.
Also booked to be in the Wairarapa-Bush starting XV are
two forwards returning from injury, Carterton lock Tomasi
Kedrabuka and Eketahuna openside flanker Rupeni Temani.
Some thought was actually given to playing Kedrabuka in the
Jeremy David Trophy game against Poverty Bay last Saturday
because he was close to recovery from the knee injury he suffered
during Carterton's win over Masterton Red Star in the premier
division club final but Tantrum elected to err on the side of caution.
Adding to the importance of this Saturday's outing for Kedrabuka is
that he is no longer an absolute certainty for a middle- row berth
this season with Andrew McLean (Gladstone), Daniel Griffin (Eketa
huna) and Brandan Young (Eketahuna) all displaying the sort of
form that will bring them into serious contention as well.
Temani has been sidelined for some weeks with an injured finger
but Tantrum is pleased enough with his progress to nominate him
as a certain starter this weekend.
``He's another one who desperately needs to get some rugby into
him so, yes, he will be play.''
It is unlikely, however, that another Eketahuna loosie in the
Wairarapa-Bush squad, Joss Tua-Davidson, will take the field as he
injured a knee last Saturday and Tantrum won't want to risk him.
Tantrum expects the Samoans to offer the same formidable opposition as Poverty Bay with the bulk of their side likely to come from the Jubilee Cup-winning Norths
club side.
``You can pretty much take for granted they will be aggressive
and mobile up front and sharp in the backs, they will be a huge test
for us.''
