KEY POINTS:
You might be of the opinion that Audi's style-led TT roadster isn't a real sports car. But the German carmaker would like to change your mind with a new concept car called the TT Clubsport, which borrows technology from motorsport and aims to present the model as what's being dubbed as a "pure driving machine".
The Clubsport has no hood and no A-pillars. Instead, it wears a wraparound windscreen which is kept extremely low, speedster-style.
The two humps behind the interior in place of the hood compartment are reminiscent of a racing car and the vehicle is opened by remote control.
An increase in track of 80mm over the regular roadster gives an impression of greater width and the concept rides on 20-inch alloys.
Aluminium forms a large part of the car's cabin detailing. The steering wheel, pedals and much interior trim is shaped from lightweight alloy, as is the gear lever - adapted from that in the mid-engine R8 supercar.
The Clubsport's 2.0-litre TFSI engine has even more power than the version fitted to the Audi S3 hatchback. It makes in excess of 220kW and drives all four wheels through a twin-clutch manual gearbox. Audi says small-scale production of the Clubsport is being considered. Umbrellas at the ready!
