Club in the swing for Life Flight

Backhands were rocketing down the white line yesterday at a Carterton Tennis Club fundraiser for Life Flight Trust.

The event was organised by club member Jan Farr and her colleagues Belinda Cordwell and Jocelyn Kinnell, after Mrs Farr attended a talk given by Life Flight and decided to get the tennis club behind the cause.

She said Life Flight was "essential to the community".

The friendly tournament had been on the agenda for three months. All proceeds to go Life Flight.

"We haven't spent a penny, it's all been donations, sponsors and donated prizes," Mrs Farr said.

She said sports clubs in the district are going through a tough time, so the tennis club was making a real effort to engage the community and get people involved.

"You have to grab the community by the scruff of the neck," Mrs Farr said.

Former top tennis player Belinda Cordwell is hosting coaching sessions at the club and encourages anyone to come along.

Twenty-seven players took part in the event, expected to raise $800 to $1000 for Life Flight.
