Opaki captain Russell Broughton is predicting a 5-4 result in his team's Gawith Shield regional one inter-club tennis grand final with Martinborough on Saturday but he's unsure as to which of the teams will grab the spoils.
"You can almost guarantee it will go right down to the wire, one upset result could make all the difference," he said.
Close battles have been the order of the day in the three previous clashes between Opaki and Martinborough this season with Martinborough holding a 2-1 advantage on the win-loss register.
On that basis Broughton is happy to concede favouritism to Martinborough going into Saturday's competition decider.
" (They) Martinborough have been the most consistent team by far all season so, yes, we'd have to be the underdogs," he said.
"But at the same time we can win, no doubt about that."
Opaki will be at full strength for the grand final with Broughton, whose only singles defeat in club play this season came at the hands of Gladstone's Baden Stevenson, heading the men's section for Opaki with Brett Dymond at two, Stu Wyeth at three and Matt Stewart at four.
And making up their women's section will be the daughter-and-mother combination of Katie Wyeth and Jan Wyeth.
It's a good all-round side with the women, especially, sure to pose big problems for Martinborough in both singles and doubles play but whether it contains the depth to secure overall victory is the $64,000 question.
"The way it looks the struggle for us will be to get that fifth win," Broughton said.
"We can probably expect four but it's that fifth which is the worry.".
