Close call for Tranz Alpine train

The Tranz Alpine passenger train had to brake to avoid hitting a concrete truck that smashed through barrier arms and stopped on the tracks yesterday morning.

Track owner and operator Ontrack has laid a complaint with police.

The close call happened between Hornby and Islington in Christchurch, said Kevin Ramshaw of Ontrack.
