The accurate shooting of Emma Clinton-Baker played a key part in the convincing 46-34 win secured by Gladstone All Blacks over Celtic Marist in their Netball Wairarapa premier one match played at the Genesis Recreation Centre on Friday night.
In what was expected to be a close game the Sandra McNab-coached Gladstone All Blacks had the edge through the first three quarters with Clinton-Baker being the dominant force in the shooting circle.
Another key factor in the Gladstone All Blacks's success was their though court defence which ensured that Celtic had difficulty in providing their shooters with a consistent service.
To Celtic's credit though they did outscore Gladstone All Blacks in the fourth and final quarter but by then the bird had flown.
St Matthews Collegiate stamped their authority on proceedings early in their clash with Kuranui College and ran out commanding winners by 54-21. It was a hugely impressive effort by St Matthews who moved the ball through the court with pace on attack and were quick to pick up any intercepts on defence. They now loom as a real threat for the premier one title.
Harcourts kept their unbeaten record intact when the defending champions scored an easy 59-30 win over Carterton Sports Arena. The latter lacked nothing on the score of endeavour but Harcourts were too slick for them in all departments.
