A man with serious injuries was being treated at the Mt Cook Emergency Centre this afternoon after a fall from the mountain this morning.
Police were advised about 10.30am that the man had fallen near the summit.
Police said a helicopter with one Alpine Rescue team member managed to land a skid beside the injured man, who was now being treated at the emergency centre.
He was to be brought to Christchurch Hospital by Westpac rescue helicopter.
His identity or nationality were unavailable.
Senior Constable Brent Swanson, of Twizel police, said the rescue was difficult because of the altitude and strong winds.
The man's two climbing companions were making their way to Plateau Hut and were expected to arrive there tonight.
Mr Swanson said there were a number of other climbers and guides in the area.
