Leading scientists, farmers, politicians, foresters and business people will descend on Parliament today to take part in a climate change conference.
About 150 people are expected to pack into the old legislative chamber to look at strategies to deal with the challenges of climate change.
It is being hosted by Green MP Kennedy Graham, who is disappointed National MPs are refusing to attend.
He said the issue is far more important than partisan politics.
"A different kind of democracy in action, where we come and actually exchange views and reason instead of criticise each other. We look for common ground," Mr Graham said.
