The brief stretch of fine weather is due to come to an end today with cloud and rain predicted over the North Island.
MetService forecasts that today will be fine until the afternoon, when raincloud will cover most of the North Island.
Auckland can expect a high of 15C, with temperatures gradually rising to 17C by the end of the week. Overnight temperatures are likely to be around 6C.
The warm northerly wind will also become stronger as the week progresses.
Weather ambassador Bob McDavitt said the frosts experienced last week were expected to disappear as the weather became slightly warmer, but wetter.
"We're expecting northerlies, which generally make for less frosts and moister conditions. There'll be some sunny spots in the North, and it will get a little warmer, but we'll see rain in Northland and Auckland too."
Most of the North Island will see intermittent showers until Friday, when rainfall will become much heavier.
