A plastic-based asphalt is being trialled for paved roads in the Canadian city of Vancouver. The material is been made from plastics such as used water bottles and yoghurt pots, which are ground to a mash and mixed with standard asphalt. When it is heated it flows around the aggregate and binds it together. The material has so far proved to be as durable as traditional materials.
