While fossil fuel corporate giants race one another to tap an ever-dwindling supply of atmosphere-polluting fuel, one Kiwi electricity company remains focused on long-term solutions, striving to minimise the impact of big business on the global community.

Meridian Energy is New Zealand's largest generator of 100% renewable energy, producing approximately a third of the country's electricity. Thanks to generators like Meridian, New Zealanders source around 80% of their electricity from renewable resources such as water and wind.

The company owns and operates seven wind farms and precious New Zealand hydro-electric assets such as the Manapouri and Waitaki dams. Meridian also built the first ever wind farm in Ross Island, Antarctica and a Tongan solar farm in partnership with the Tongan and New Zealand governments. Headquartered in New Zealand, Meridian is staffed by more than 800 employees.

Customers may purchase electricity plans directly from Meridian. Fixed and variable pricing plans are available, with your choice of payment method and a LevelPay option to pay your bill over the course of a year. Meridian customers can track and control their power use online with MyMeridian.

As New Zealand's largest renewable energy generator, Meridian is the leading contributor to meeting the government's target of 90 per cent renewable generation by 2025. The company also supports sustainability and community initiatives in a myriad
of other ways.

Meridian has developed a five-year emission plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions per full time staff member by ten per cent, recording progress with a yearly public report. Since 2001, the company has made annual calculations of its carbon footprint available online.

The energy supplier is also involved in environmental restoration projects. For over 20 years, Meridian has partnered with the Department of Conservation for Project River Recovery, an initiative devoted to the research and protection of over 35,000 hectares of river and wetland habitat in the Upper Waitaki Basin. The company has also established a 'trap and transfer' program to protect the Manapouri and Waitaki's populations of longfin eel, which serve as a vital resource for local iwi Ngai Tahu.

In addition, Meridian community funds support a wide array of projects located near generation assets. The company is also a sponsor for some of New Zealand's top rowers, children's charity KidsCan, tree-planting initiative Living Legends, and Meridian has also worked with marine conservation programme Sustainable Coastlines.
