KEY POINTS:
A fully restored 1966 left-hand-drive Shelby GT 350 fastback is expected to fetch around $300,000 when it comes up for auction in Sydney on May 5.
It is believed to be the first genuine GT 350 to be offered for auction across the Tasman.
Powered by Ford's evergreen 289-cid V8 producing 228kW (306bhp) at 6000rpm, the 1966 Shelby GT 350 weighed just 1267kg.
It accelerated from zero to 100km/h in 6.2 seconds and covered the standing quarter mile (about 400m) in just 14 seconds, according to a road test by Car Life magazine.
The auction example is one of only 1368 examples built in 1966.
The vehicle had one long-term owner in the United States from 1971 until 2001 and has been fully authenticated by the Shelby American Automotive.
