Former Prime Minister Helen Clark is on the shortlist of three for the post of director of the United Nations Development Programme, says the Trans Tasman political letter.
It also says she has gained the support of South Korean President Lee Myung-bak, whom she met in Auckland last week.
It believes Mr Lee's advocacy could be influential because UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is also Korean.
