National has called on Prime Minister Helen Clark to release her statement of evidence in the speeding motorcade case.
National Deputy Leader Gerry Brownlee said the Prime Minister should release the evidence statement to ensure that it did not contradict her past statements that she had been unaware that the motorcade was speeding.
"Helen Clark must release the material. She has not been served with a witness summons and she is not a defendant, so there's no reason to withhold it from the public," he said.
"It's just impossible to accept that Helen Clark did not realise how fast her motorcade was going."
She had the power to stop the motorcade speeding and prevent the drivers from being charged.
"Instead, she is prepared to let them take the rap for doing what they believed was their job."
A spokeswoman for Helen Clark said the Prime Minister did not intend commenting on a matter that was before the courts.
