The man charged with kidnapping Chinese girl Cina Ma in Auckland has dropped his legal bid for continued name suppression.
Deqiong Deng, also known as Aaron, withdrew his application for continued name suppression which was to have been heard in North Shore District Court today.
Deng, 25, a real estate agent from the North Shore, is charged with unlawfully abducting five-year-old Cina Ma with intent to hold her for ransom.
Cina, also known as Xin Xin, was taken from outside her Albany home on Auckland's North Shore by a masked man on July 14, bundled into a car and driven away.
She was found unharmed five days later in a walk-in wardrobe in a new but unoccupied house a couple of hundred metres away from her home.
Deng remains in custody and will reappear in North Shore District Court on August 28 for pre-depositions.
