KEY POINTS:
The rising road toll in the Dome Valley, 5km northwest of Warkworth, has prompted one church congregation to try to lower it by praying at the deadliest accident spots.
Auckland's City Impact Church outreach director Dean Payn told the Challenge Weekly, a Christian newspaper, that the traffic black-spot prayer sessions came about after a meeting with police.
"The police told us their No 1 concern was the death toll in the Dome Valley," he said.
"They said their key role was to keep people safe and they were struggling to do so there."
In response to this, Mr Payn organised to pray in three of the most notorious accident spots in Dome Valley, where at least seven people have died in car crashes over the past three years.
"It was part of our community consultation process to see what needs there are in the community," he said.
