KEY POINTS:
The rising road toll in the Dome Valley, 5km northwest of Warkworth, has prompted one church congregation to try to lower it by praying at key accident spots.
Auckland's City Impact Church outreach director, Dean Payn told the Challenge Weekly, a Christian newspaper, that the traffic black-spot prayer sessions came about after a meeting with police.
"The police told us their number one concern was the death toll in the Dome Valley," he said. "They said their key role is to keep people safe and they were struggling to do so there."
In response to this, Mr Payn organised to pray in three of the most notorious accident spots in Dome Valley, where at least seven people have died over the past three years in car crashes.
"It was part of our community consultation process to see what needs there are in the community," he said.
