Christmas lights go on for net mogul

All Kim Dotcom wants for Christmas is peace and happiness - and, perhaps, to defeat the US government in a massive legal fight to extradite him to face copyright charges.

The internet mogul flicked the switch for the Franklin Rd Christmas light display last night, before posing with fans.

Dotcom told the Herald on Sunday he hoped Santa would deliver peace and happiness.

"I just want peace, for my family and for everybody, and I just want happiness."

So, is he happy? "No, I'm not. I can't be happy under these circumstances."

Dotcom has been embroiled in legal battles since police raided his rented Coatesville mansion in response to United States charges that he had committed online piracy through his Megaupload website. Dotcom denies any wrongdoing.

The 38-year-old said he was looking forward to the festive season because it provided a break from the ongoing court hearings. He, wife Mona and their five children were planning a traditional European Christmas enjoying a meal of ham and a "big goose".

Last night thousands watched the lighting of the Telecom Christmas Tree at Victoria Park. More than 1000 lights lining Queen St were switched on on Thursday night - the first time the street has been fully lit for Christmas.
