Carol singing, dancing, Christmas markets, talent shows, a brass band, pipe band, buskers, kapa haka and other cultural performances are being planned.
The Christmas tree will also be lit and Santa will be in his grotto.
"This year we want people to say 'Wow we have had a great Christmas and we will have these memories for the rest of our lives; we are so looking forward to the next year'," said Mrs Ryan.
The event came about because she wanted to bring more Christmas cheer to the area.
"I don't think it's been very visual and there hasn't been a lot of activity and celebration here.
"So I decided to create something."
Mrs Ryan, who originally comes from Auckland, said Christmas festivities were huge there.
"You are just completely surrounded with Christmas, there's always something on.
"Here, there's not much for families to celebrate together.'
On most nights the event will start at 6.30pm and end at 8pm, to allow families with young children to attend.
Each night will have a different theme.
NZ's Got Talent contestant Cruize Karaitiana is set to sing on the opening night and, echoing traditional European Christmas markets, there will be three night markets, held on December 13, 16 and 22.
Mrs Ryan is particularly keen to hear from cultural groups who would like to perform on December 23.
She is also looking for buskers and stallholders; entry is free for buskers and $5 per night for stallholders.
Mrs Ryan said the events had been funded by a grant from the Creative Communities Scheme but more funding was needed.
